Upright Rows
Print this exercise
Upright Rows can be done with dumbbells or a Barbell. This exercise is done
in the standing position and must be done carefully always controlling the weight to avoind overstressing the lower
back. Begin by holding the hands overhand on a barbell medium to narrow width, while allowing the barbell to hang
down in front of you at about upper thigh level. If you are using dumbbells, simulate this same position and grip
while holding the dumbbells. Pull directly up on the weight keeping the barbell or dumbbells close to the body as
you continue up with the weight until the hands are under the chin. Make sure to keep the elbows out and up. The
elbows should always be higher than the hands. Carefully lower the weight back to the starting position controlling
the weight the whole time. Allowing the weight to drop back to the lower, starting postion can be very stressful on
the lower back.
